Where does gyatt come from?

Gyatt comes from the word goddamn. Specifically, it is an expressive way of spelling the god in goddamn, alongside damn as dayum, for greater emphasis or humorous effect. It also reflects patterns of pronunciation and spelling in African American English, where gyatt originates.

While found online since at least the late 2000s, gyatt spread in the early 2020s on social media and live-stream gaming platforms especially. One popular Internet streamer, who goes by the handle YourRAGE, began using the word in 2021 as an exclamation to express his excited disbelief at women’s butts he found attractive. YourRAGE both helped to popularize gyatt and narrow its sense to callipgyian commentary, shall we say.

How is gyatt used?

Due to its associations with posteriors, gyatt has started to become a slang term for the butt itself. Because it is associated with attraction, gyatt has become a way to proclaim something as “excellent” or “impressive” more generally. It is also commonly used as a hashtag online and as a pun, as in “I gyatt to go to the gym!” Note that gyatt frequently appears in mature content and, because it is widely used to characterize women’s bodies, may be considered mildly offensive. Watch your gyatt when using gyatt.
