Note: The western part of Timor was formerly Netherlands Timor and belonged to the Dutch until 1946. It is now part of Indonesia. The eastern part was formerly Portuguese Timor and belonged to Portugal until 1975, was annexed by Indonesia in 1976, and gained independence in 2002 as East Timor.
