: a plant-parasitic nematode (Ditylenchus destructor) that attacks roots and tubers (as of potato or sugar beet) causing dry rugose lesions highly susceptible to secondary invasion by fungi and that has long been a serious pest of potatoes in northern Europe and is now known also from widely separated points in North America
