borrowed from New Latin, derivative based on Javanese ancar "upas tree"

Note: Taxon introduced by the French botanist Jean-Baptiste Leschenault de la Tour (1773-1826) in "Mémoire sur le Strychnos tieute et l'Antiaris toxicaria, plantes vénéneuses de l'île de Java," Annales du Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, vol. 16 (1810), pp. 459-83. Cf. note at antiar.
