Note: The baule unit was defined by the mathematician Bernhard Baule (1891-1976, born in Münden, Hannover, resident in Graz, Austria, for much of his life) in the article "Zu Mitscherlichs Gesetz der physiologische Beziehungen," Landwirtschaftliche Jahrbücher, Band 51 (1918), pp. 363-85. The unit was based on an equation developed by the German agronomist Eilhard Alfred Mitscherlich (1874-1956).
